[Golf Facilities and Turf Systems] This major provides students with the skills and experiences to build and manage turfgrass environments such as golf courses and playing fields for recreational and professional sports teams.
Golf has become an increasingly popular recreational activity in the United States. Minnesota and North Dakota have more golf courses per capita than any other states. Between 1994 and 1997 a total of 2,009 new golf courses opened across the country. An additional 1,101 courses underwent expansion.

Professional golf course managers and turf specialists use technology and talent to balance the needs of people with those of nature. Corporate office parks, municipal recreation departments, and suppliers to the turfgrass industry are creating unprecedented demand for well-trained turfgrass managers, supervisors, and scientists.
