Job Title:

Biological Science Technician

Job Responsibilities:

I identified grassland, wetland, and forest-edge birds by sight and sound, did species point transects in CRP fields, and I recorded Visual Obstruction Readings.  I finished the year with data entry and banding of American White Pelicans.

Summarize Your
Experience:

I traveled throughout the Northern Great Plains (Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota) conducting research to determine whether native or introduced CRP plantings are most beneficial for grassland birds.

What I liked most about
the job:

I enjoyed spending 8+ hours in the field each day in amazing landscapes across the Northern Great Plains.

Challenges on the job:

Learning ~150 birds by sight and sound was difficult and so was being on the road all the time staying in hotels every night.
