Agricultural Systems Management B.S.

This program combines students' interest in machinery, technology, and crop and livestock production with superior people skills, creative thinking, and problem solving to build a career in the agricultural and food production industry.

Agricultural systems management graduates are well versed in agricultural foundations and have working knowledge of economic systems with a well-developed sense of professionalism. Companies are looking for multitalented people who are confident around computers, machines, and business plans. The agricultural systems management program offers four areas of emphasis to provide a unique portfolio of technical and business skills that gives graduates an edge in the job market.

Four Distinct Emphasis

Bio-Fuels and Renewable Energy Technology
With the trend toward alternative sources for energy and a strong industry demand, students interested in the field will be prepared for a variety of career paths including design, sales and management. Renewable energy refers to using resources that are naturally replenished; growing plants, sunlight, wind and geothermal heat, as energy sources. With the challenges facing the consumer and the global demand for energy increasing, this degree option will provide students with a unique opportunity to meet a need that exists worldwide.

Farm and Ranch Management
For some, the dream of owning and operating a family farm or ranch is just that, a dream. But for others, farming and ranching are exciting possibilities. The Farm and Ranch Management emphasis focuses on a blend of business and production management. The program's goal is to provide a solid foundation of skills to allow the graduate to compete and succeed in the changing world of modern agriculture. A core set of courses is supplemented with a generous selection of electives to allow the student to tailor the program to his or her interests.

Power and Machinery
New technology and "new paint" have always been driving forces to the consumer. The farm equipment industry is a multi-billion dollar business with global opportunities. Excellent Careers exist in the design, testing, marketing, and servicing of agricultural equipment and related industries.

Precision Agriculture
The Precision Agriculture emphasis focuses on information gathering, management planning, and field operations that improve the understanding and management of soil and landscape resources. Optimized management allows more efficient utilization and cost control of agricultural inputs such as fertilizers, chemicals, seed, water, and tillage practices, among others.

Currently, major agricultural machinery manufacturers like Case-IH and John Deere are aligning themselves with companies that deal with precision agriculture applications.
