Human Resource Sessions Set for January 25, 26
Carol Carrier, U of M Vice President for the Office of Human Resources, will be visiting the UMC campus on January 25 and 26.   Attached you will find a detailed agenda of the two days of meetings which will be held in Sahlstrom Conference Center A-B-C.  Robert Jones, Julie Switzer and possibly Mary Dempsey will accompany Carol and be available to assist with training opportunities.

Faculty and staff attendance at these meetings is critical.  These topics are important to you individually as well as to UMC as a whole.  Your thoughtful participation will impact UMC’s progress on these issues during the coming months.  The meetings will discuss the University’s policy on the following topics.

  • Probationary tenure track faculty
  • Post tenure review
  • Research expectations for UMC tenure track faculty
  • Reviewing UMC’s recruiting, screening and hiring practices
  • UMC’s Affirmative Action goals
  • Academic appointment policy
  • Professional development

In advance of these meetings, the FCC suggested that it would be helpful to provide you with the following web sites to give you background information and help you prepare.  Most of these sites are accessible throughout the year at UMC’s Office of Human Resources’ website, which is located at: http://www.umcrookston.edu/people/HR/index.htm.

Campus Recycling Efforts
Hopefully by now you have all heard about UMC's new Recycling Program.  I encourage all of you to actively participate in this program.  We, the UMC Student Association, have worked hard to make it as easy as possible to recycle.  UMC NEEDS to recycle.  Prior to this initiative, UMC was the only campus in the U of M system that did not recycle.

We are asking you to encourage, teach, and promote to others the importance of recycling.  More importantly we need you to personally act and do your part.

We have distributed cardboard boxes for paper recycling to all of the faculty and staff on campus.  If for any reason you did not receive one of these, please let me know and I will be sure to get you one ASAP.  All you have to do is recycle your paper and take them out to the blue recycling bins in the hallway.  Also, we ask that you deposit any glass, plastic, or aluminum into the appropriate bins in the hall.  Some cardboard bins will be located outside select locations.  Keep your eye out for them.  We have hired a student who will be emptying the bins regularly.  We are still working on all the details and need your help to let us know if there is a bin that is full or one that does not get used.

Acceptable Materials

Paper

All magazines, newspapers, notes, printed paper, stapled paper, books, plastic ring bound paper

Aluminum Cans

All aluminum beverage cans

Glass and Plastic

All glass or plastic bottles and other containers

Cardboard (outside only)

Corrugated cardboard, pop cases, pizza boxes

--Shane Roers, Chairman of Recycling Committee and President of UMC Student Association
