Course Redesign Seminars
The Center for Academic Transformation, an EDUCAUSE affiliate, is pleased to announce the following seminars:

"State-of-the-Art Learning Environments: Pew Grant Program in Course Redesign Round I Results" (Co-sponsored by the Executive Forum in Information Technology at Virginia Tech)

  • November 13, 2000, Orlando Airport Marriott, Orlando, Florida
  • February 26, 2001, DFW Airport Marriott South, Dallas, Texas

Featuring the results of the first of three rounds of the Pew Grant Program in Course Redesign, faculty project leaders show how to increase quality and reduce costs using information technology. Faculty from four institutions talk about their models of course redesign, including their decisions regarding student learning objectives, course content, learning resources, course staffing and task analysis, and student and project evaluation.

These models provide varied approaches that demonstrate multiple routes to success, tailored to the needs and context of each institution. For further information and registration materials, please visit http://www.center.rpi.edu/LForum/learnenv.html.

Proposals for Round III of the Pew Grant Program in Course Redesign are due November 15, 2000. Information about this program is available at http://www.center.rpi.edu/PewGrant.html.

EDUCAUSE is an international, nonprofit association whose mission is to help shape and enable transformational change in higher education through the introduction, use, and management of information resources and technologies in teaching, learning, scholarship, research, and institutional management.

Craig CarmeanMusician/Comedian Craig Carmean to Perform at UMC November 16
Musician and comedian Craig Carmean will perform at UMC on Thursday, November 16.  The performance will begin at 8:00 p.m. in Bede Ballroom and is free for UMC students, faculty, and staff.  The event is open to the public with a $2 admission charge.

Carmean has performed on cruise lines, nightclubs, and college campuses across the country, combining music, comedy, satire, and parody into something he calls “new rock comedy.”  Recently he was selected "Comedian of the Year 2000" by Campus Activities Magazine.

Bus Trip to Mayville for Basketball
On November 21, the UMC Golden Eagles travel to Mayville State University for both men's and women's basketball games.   It is traditional that we take an adult bus trip to Mayville to cheer on the Golden Eagles.  We should arrive at the gates by about 6:00 p.m. in time for the women's basketball contest.   Our flight back to Crookston is normally a non-stop trip and should put us back by no later than 11:00 p.m. or thereabouts.   Please advise me if you might be interested in taking this short trip to Mayville.  I will outline more details later when I find out what interest is out there.
--Curt Almlie, Director of Institutional Relations

Open Enrollment Reminder

Dining Services Thanksgiving Schedule
On Wednesday, November 22, Morsels will close at 2:30 p.m. and Dining Services will close at 4:00 p.m.  Students can take a to-go box for their supper when we are serving lunch.  Dining Services will be closed November 23, 24, 25 and 26.  We will reopen on Monday, November 27 for breakfast in Morsels.
