Faculty/Staff United Way Campaign
Congratulations to everyone, we have reached and surpassed our UMC goal of $6500.00. As of today's date we have had contributions of 109.2%, just under $7100.00.

Thank you all for your pledges and contributions; they are all greatly appreciated. The entire campaign was very successful within Crookston, I am not aware of the final figure but we came very close to our goal!

Thank you again, and have a safe and joyful holiday season.

Interim Director of Assessment Sought
UMC is committed to continually examining ways in which student learning can be improved.  In order to do this most effectively, we need to begin a very intensive and comprehensive assessment of our students’ learning.  The North Central Association, our accrediting agency, has indicated that we need to document progress in assessment for a September 2001 Monitoring Report and a September 2003 Report.  This will require a commitment if time and energy on all our parts.

It is also clear that this will require leadership that is dedicated on a full time basis to helping us focus and keep us on task.  To this end we are now looking to fill an Interim Director of Assessment position (January 2001-August 2001).  It is possible that the position will evolve into a full-time permanent position pending funding and other support.

The position description and the need for this leadership have been reviewed by the UMC Assessment Steering Committee, made up of Soo-Yin Lim-Thompson, Richard Nelson, Marsha Odom, Wendell Johnson, Sharon Stewart, Sue Brorson, John Loegering, and Lynnette Mullins.

The position description is available at the UMC Human Resources website <http://webhome.crk.umn.edu/~ljohnson/HR/>.  Individuals who are interested should submit a letter of interest to me by December 15, 2000.
--Doug Knowlton, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
