2002 Legislative Briefing
The annual U of M Legislative Briefing is Tuesday, January 22, 2002, at 5:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall at the McNamara Alumni Center.  Sponsored by the University of Minnesota’s Alumni Association, complimentary parking and a buffet will be provided.

This kick-off event to the 2002 Legislative Session presents a wonderful opportunity for alumni, faculty, students, staff, donors and friends to meet and learn about the 2002 Capital Request as well as how to be a strong advocate on behalf of the University.  President Mark G. Yudof and other University leaders will be available to review the specifics of the request and answer questions.  The capital request, which includes funds for twelve prioritized improvement, renovation, and construction projects across all University campuses, totals $239.8 million over the biennium and builds on the momentum for renewing the campus, investing in the future, and enhancing the undergraduate experience.

For more information about the request, you can visit <www.umn.edu/govrel>.
For more information about the 2002 Legislative Briefing, visit <www.umaa.umn.edu/umaa/legislative-network>, or call Nicole Bennett at 612-626-8371 or 1-800-862-5867.

Leadership in AAC and SSS
Rand RasmussenAs of January 1, 2002, I have asked Rand Rasmussen to take over the administrative leadership of both Student Support Services and the Academic Assistance Center.  His leadership will allow for some continuity and coordination in the services provided and will also allow us to more efficiently utilize the staff time that is available.  With Lynn Gevens leaving UMC we will now be able to fill her position with a full time "clinical" staff member (interviews now being scheduled) without a portion of the time dedicated to administration in the AAC and, thus, even more effectively meet the needs of students with disabilities and other students needing support. Thanks to Rand for his willingness to take on these extra responsibilities, and thank you to the members of the campus community for your involvement in these student support activities.
--Doug Knowlton, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
