Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program
UROP application material for
projects to be conducted between January 1, 2002 to June 15, 2002 is now
available in the Academic Affairs Office. The maximum award is $1,700 –
stipend up to $1,400 (hourly rate is $10.84) and expense allowance up to
$300. Completed applications should be returned to the Academic Affairs
Office by 4:30 p.m. on October 8, 2001 (late applications will not be
accepted). UROP offers financial awards to undergraduate students for
research, scholarly, or creative projects undertaken in partnership with
a faculty member. UROP affords undergraduates the unique educational
experience of collaborating with a faculty member on the design and
implementation of a project. It encourages students to conduct research
and pursue academic interests outside of their regular courses by
employing them to work on special projects. UROP applications are
judged on the quality of the proposed project and the educational
benefit to the student. Copies of UROP proposals submitted by UMC
students that have been funded are on reserve in the library.

Online College Fair
UMC will take part in the
National Association for College Admission Counseling’s Online College
Fair on Tuesday, September 11. There will be two sessions, one in the
morning and early afternoon and one in the late afternoon and evening.
Johanna Alcorn of the Office of Admissions has been designated the point
person on this. If you have questions, please contact her. UMC first
became involved with this online fair last year.
During Online College
Fairs, students worldwide log on to <www.OnlineCollegeFair.com>
to chat live with college admission representatives, faculty and
students. Through virtual Q & A chat sessions, students learn about
each institution, including admission requirements, financial aid, major

Accessing UMC Network
Off Campus
Since the UMC Modem Pool will be
shut down by October 1, faculty and staff will need to access
our campus network through our
UMC Halstad Dialup accounts. A web site has been set up to help automate
this process.
The UMC Halstad Dialup
accounts are available for faculty and staff who live within a 50-mile
radius of campus. If you already have a UMC Halstad account, please
continue to use that account, as this request form will not issue a
second account.
Please use Internet
Explorer to access this link since this web site will require you to
login with your Username and Password for the UMC domain. The web page
is located at:
