Alternative Spring Break Opportunity March 13-20
Campus Ministry is sponsoring an alternative spring break opportunity for UMC students.  This is the first alternative trip that has ever been offered by our ministry.  The trip will be to Cincinnati, Ohio, from March 13-20, where we will stay with the Franciscans for the Poor and work on different mission projects each day that week.  Because of a substantial grant that was obtained for this new ministry initiative, the cost to UMC students for the week is only $50 plus a couple of meals round trip.  The cost includes food, lodging and transportation.  We still have a few openings if anyone is interested in taking such a worthwhile and rewarding trip.  I will travel with the group as well as Pam Holsinger-Fuchs by 15 passenger van.

There really is no greater satisfaction than doing mission-related work and we would love to have you be a part of this fun and exciting experience!  Please contact me by stopping by campus ministry in 113 Robertson, phoning me at ext. 8516, or by e-mail.
--Chris Boike, coordinator of Cooperative Campus Ministry

Online Statements for Employee and FSA Reimbursements and Payments
The U of M Offices of Human Resources and the Controller are excited to announce enhancements to the Employee Self-Service Web site with the implementation of online statements for:

  • Employee Reimbursements and Payments

  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) Reimbursements

These new online statements will be available to employees beginning January 19, 2004, through the Employee Self-Service Web site.

WHAT EMPLOYEE REIMBURSEMENTS AND PAYMENTS ARE INCLUDED?

  • Travel expenses and advances

  • Miscellaneous business expenses

  • Subject advances and payments

  • Royalty payments

  • FSA Health care reimbursement accounts

  • FSA Dependent care reimbursement accounts

WHY IS THIS BEING DONE?

This is the next step in a continued effort to make employee information immediately available and easily accessible. Not only are statements available online as soon as they are processed, but e-mails are immediately sent to the employee confirming that a statement has been processed. Previous statement information will be retained online making it easy for employees to track their history, including those statements that overlap calendar years. Similar to online pay statements, these new online services will also result in cost savings to the University. Employees who use payroll direct deposit and do not receive printed statements will have the same option applied to the employee payments and reimbursements listed above.

WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF THIS CHANGE?

Starting on January 19, 2004, all payments and reimbursements listed above, whether through check or direct deposit, will have an online statement. However, those employees receiving a paycheck or printed direct deposit pay statement will also continue to receive printed statements.

WHEN WILL THIS CHANGE TAKE EFFECT?

  • January 19, 2004 - Online statements will be available for all employee payments and reimbursements dating as far back as January 1, 2004.

  • January 19, 2004 - Printed statements for FSA reimbursements will be discontinued for employees on payroll direct deposit who do not receive printed pay statements.

  • January 24, 2004 - Printed statements for all other payments and reimbursements will be discontinued for employees on payroll direct deposit who do not receive printed pay statements.

HOW DO I KNOW THAT A PAYMENT HAS BEEN ISSUED?

Notification of a reimbursement or payment will be sent via e-mail to your University Internet e-mail account.

HOW DO I ACCESS MY ONLINE STATEMENTS?

When you receive the e-mail notification, link to http://hrss.umn.edu, the Employee Self-Service (ESS) Web site for:

FSA Health Care and Dependent Care Reimbursements:

  1. Select 'Flex Spending Accounts'

  2. In the new window, select 'View Your Reimbursement Statements'

  3. A selection page will be displayed with all statements generated as of January 1, 2004. Clicking on an entry will provide you with the detailed information about that statement.

  4. To view your FSA Account Balance, select 'View Your Account Balance'

Employee Payments and Other Reimbursements:

  1. Select 'Reimbursements/Payments'

  2. A selection page will be displayed with all statements generated as of January 1, 2004. Clicking on an entry will provide you with the detailed information about that statement.

Both applications include links to additional information and other applications associated with these payments.

ADDITIONAL CHANGE TO ONLINE AND PAPER PAY STATEMENTS

Beginning in February 2004, your Social Security Number (SSN) will be eliminated from your pay statement. The removal of SSN will be applied to all pay statements, online and printed. Historical online pay statements will have SSN removed as well. This change has been made as a result of growing concern about the use of SSN. We have been advised that financial institutions no longer require SSN on copies of pay statements; therefore this change should not impede the process for obtaining a mortgage, for example.

If you have any questions regarding these changes, please contact the HRMS/Payroll Call Center at 612-625-2016.
