Advisor
Week October 27 through 31
The Crookston Student Association
(CSA) will sponsor Advisor Week October 27 through 31. This is an
opportunity for faculty members to get to know their advisees. On
Wednesday, October 29, students will be able to vote for their favorite
advisor, and we will post the winner on the UMC Today page on Friday.
Some suggestions to get to know your advisees include: as a group are
ice cream socials, pizza parties, an e-mail, or even just post a time
for them to just stop in and say Hi! Attached is a survey done by the
student body on student thoughts of their advisors. (see
AcademicAdvisingSurvey2003.doc) Please take the time to look this
over. Please take advantage of this opportunity! If you have any
questions feel free to e-mail me.

PIAC Day
October 29
UMC will host its annual Program
Improvement Audit Committee (PIAC) Day Wednesday, October 29. A noon
luncheon at the Northland Inn of Crookston followed by a general session
is scheduled for all participants. After the general session, many of
the various PIAC committees will meet from 2 to 5 p.m. on the UMC
campus.
UMC’s strategic plan
includes the implementation of PIACs to aid in the implementation,
evaluation, and continuous improvement of each of its degree programs.
In addition there are three advisory committees: the All-College
Advisory Committee, the Counseling and Career Center Advisory Committee,
and the Service Learning Advisory Committee.
These groups have a
total membership of over 185 professionals who provide advice to the
University. Membership is comprised of professionals with diverse
backgrounds and interests, including representatives from business,
industrial, educational, and health organizations, as well as from the
University faculty.
In addition, it is
hoped that organizations will seek UMC’s assistance by requesting
courses and programs for training their personnel or will seek advice
from faculty or staff. Through this complementary and cooperative
approach, UMC is being helped by organizational representatives while,
at the same time, it is helping those organizations. It also directly
reinforces the outreach component of UMC’s mission as a land grant
institution.

Reminder on Use of Official
UMC Logos
A consistent, unified institutional identity is an
important part of an organization’s communications efforts. Campus
logos are a key part of that effort. How the University of Minnesota,
Crookston communicates affects its reputation and prestige directly.
Campus departments,
student organizations, faculty, staff, or students who are considering
ordering products, publications, or items that feature the University of
Minnesota Wordmark, the UMC "M," or the Golden Eagle logo, are requested
to check to make sure they are using the correct images and that these
images are being used properly. Please note: it is not appropriate
to modify any of UMC's official logos.
Any questions regarding
use of official logos or colors should be directed to Andrew Svec at
281-8435. Patti Tiedemann and Sue Dwyer in UMC Publications and Design
are also good resources in this matter. Thank you for your cooperation.
For more specific
information about campus policy, please visit <www.UMCrookston.edu/campusinfo/policies/logo.htm>.
Website
Access Reports
Website access reports generated
from the web logs on the main UMC web server are posted for the month of
September 2003 at <webhome.crk.umn.edu/~asvec/webreports/>.
This month I’ve begun running a new report that focuses exclusively on
the academic program websites. This should be helpful in gauging the
interest of prospective students in UMC’s various academic programs.
