New Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC)
University of Minnesota, Crookston Project No. 800-98-1074

The most dramatic change on campus will be the construction of the Early Childhood Development Center. As you may know, the White House that was located on the Northwest corner of the campus, which served as the Alumni and External Relations office, was sold and moved off campus this past fall. This is the site of the new Early Childhood Development Center. The center has been designed to meet the stringent code requirements of an early childhood development center. It will feature an interactive, technology assisted teaching and learning environment where UMC students, faculty and staff will work with enrolled children and their parents.

The Early Childhood Development Center will be a free standing, independent one-story facility. It has been designed to meet the needs of infants, toddlers, preschoolers, student teachers, and professional teachers. The interior will feature space for classrooms, offices, resource rooms, a storage room, a conference room, adult and child bathrooms, infant and toddler sleeping areas and changing areas, food preparation and kitchen, and a two-way observational area equipped with audiovisual equipment for monitoring classrooms and video taping student teachers. There will also be an outdoor playground and exercise area.

This new facility is to be attached to the north end of Dowell Annex. Facility will provide a teaching laboratory for Early Childhood Development Center and will replace the current facility located in Robertson Hall.
