Delegation Visits UMC
A delegation from Zhengzhou Electric Power College (ZEPC), located in the Henan Province of China, visited the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) on Tuesday, December 19, 2000. During their visit, members of the delegation toured UMC’s technology environment, discussed advanced on-the-job training methods, and further discussed with UMC officials a possible agreement that could potentially bring up to twenty students from China to UMC. Yang Chengxing, Chief of the Education Department of Electric Power of Henan, indicated that ZEPC was ready to begin the first steps of sending students to UMC, but that obtaining visas might be problematic. His statements reflected a sincere interest in further developing a relationship with UMC. UMC officials were optimistic and willing to work to help bring students from China to UMC. UMC Chancellor Don Sargeant commented on the ZEPC visit saying, "They undoubtedly visit a lot of colleges, but they continue to come back here. It's like all relationships, it takes a while. But after today we may see the fruits of the relationship start to come forth." This visit was actually the latest in a number of visits by delegations from ZEPC since their representatives first visited in 1994. Sargeant also visited ZEPC in Henan back in April 1996.
