Keith Gisser with alligators

Herps Alive! Returns to UMC April 23

The hands-on live reptile and amphibian program "Herps Alive!" returns to the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) on Monday, April 23, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the UMC Atrium.  UMC students, faculty and staff will get the chance to meet Sonny, the 13-foot, 70 lb. Burmese python, and Dominique, the 4-foot, 20 lb. American alligator along with many other frogs, lizards, salamanders, turtles and snakes.  Approximately two-dozen animals are featured.

Keith Gisser, the herpetologist in charge of this menagerie, has over 20 years' experience dealing with all aspects of herpetology and herptoculture.  As Gisser invites onlookers to touch and hold the animals, he offers insights about these creatures and their natural habitat, how they survive in captivity, their care, and the differences between them.

Gisser’s work has been lauded by experts such as Jack Hanna, Director Emeritus of the Columbus Zoo, and his program was named “Family Program of the Year” by the National Association for Campus Activities in 1999.

This event is sponsored by the UMC Concerts and Lectures Committee.  Disability accommodations are available upon request. Contact 218-281-8506.

Herps Alive! can be scheduled through the G.G. Greg Entertainment Agency
