The Instructional Technology Certification Program, designed to train educators to be instructional technology professionals for higher education and K-12, will be in session from May 21-June 21, 2001.  The main emphases in the certification program are instructional design modeling, hands-on technology training, interactive authoring, and intensive web development.  After the month-long component is completed, ongoing training and mentoring in support of specific projects will occur for approximately one year.

Dan Lim, director of UMC’s Instructional Technology Center is teaching the courses.  According to Lim, “This program features an interactive, paperless, hands-on, online, and laptop learning environment for educators who want to be transformed into learning designers and technologists.  The program came about because of requests and suggestions by numerous educators from across the nation and around the world over the years.  Many of these educators have followed UMC's trailblazing leadership in laptop learning environment and interactive technology integration.  Our vision for a global technology integration into education is the drive behind the UMC's Instructional Technology Certification program.”

At this time three of the courses in UMC’s certificate program will also apply to a master’s degree in instructional technology offered by the University of St. Thomas.
