Mayor Don Osborne Proclaims February 23
Maroon and Gold Day
in Crookston
The city of Crookston will join in
celebrating Maroon and Gold Day Friday, February 23, 2001. Crookston
Mayor Don Osborne signed a city-wide proclamation on Wednesday making it
official. February 23 marks the official observance of the
University of Minnesota's Founders Week, which commemorates the
signing of the U's charter on Feb. 25, 1851. Maroon and Gold Day is the
highlight of the U's sesquicentennial (150 year) anniversary.
The event is being observed all over the
state. Each of the University's campuses--Crookston, Duluth, Morris,
and the Twin Cities--and their local communities will observe the
day. Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura has also signed a statewide
proclamation marking the date as Maroon and Gold Day.
According to U of M President Mark Yudof,
"Friday is a special day for the University of Minnesota and the
people of the state who have given so much to their land-grant
university. Whether you are an alumnus, a neighbor, or a proud
Minnesotan, please join us in this once-in-a-lifetime celebration by
wearing maroon and gold gear."
At UMC, the day marks the highlight of Maroon
and Gold Week.
