Remote Sensing Lecture and Demonstration Set for March 6The Center for Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) has invited Dr. Santosh K. Seelan of the University of North Dakota (UND) to present a two-hour lecture and demonstration on remote sensing in agriculture. The presentation will begin at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, in Hill Hall, room 4 on the UMC campus and will be followed by a discussion. Seelen will address precision agriculture and natural resources students and members of the Minnesota Northwest Region Precision Agriculture Learning Group. Seelan’s presentation will focus on:
The hands-on presentation will involve the use of free-downloadable software and landsat data. The goal for participants is to gain a better understanding of the basic concepts of image enhancements and band combination. Student participants will use laptop computers to complete this activity. Seelan is a research fellow at the Upper Midwest Aerospace Consortium (UMAC) with the main office in UND. He joined UMAC in November 1998. Before joining UMAC, he was working as a Land Information Consultant with Terralink, a New Zealand government-owned enterprise, providing geospatial solutions. Prior to that he worked with India’s remote sensing program for 17 years, initially in the application area and later as Head of India’s satellite data distribution center and project director, IRS data distribution. His formal qualifications include a Ph.D. degree in remote sensing, a Master’s degree in applied geology, and a post-graduate diploma in groundwater science.
