UMC Acknowledges Stanislowski Robert Stanislowski, a machinist at Crookston Welding and Machine, Inc., was recently honored by students enrolled in the Agricultural Systems Management (ASM) program at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC). Students enrolled in the course ASM 3002 “Ag Power” presented an award to Stanislowski for his contributions to agriculture programs at UMC. Each year over the past fifteen years, Stanislowski has generously provided demonstrations for UMC students on engine rebuilding and machining at Crookston Welding and Machine, Inc. His demonstrations have included crankshaft grinding, engine cylinder boring, surfacing of heads and manifolds, balancing of flywheels, line boring of engine blocks, leak detection on cylinder heads, and engine block repair. For his part, Stanislowski is happy to oblige. He says it’s been a good experience for him as well, because it allows him to share his expertise. He adds, "It’s important for students to understand the process and how and why things are done in a certain way.” Over the years Stanislowski has observed the evolution of machine repair and maintenance to more of an industrial focus. “Years ago,” he says, “we’d focus on rebuilding engines more frequently than today, but that’s changed as technology has improved. We still do rebuilds, but everything is much more precision-oriented now, and our clients prefer the industrial focus." According to Paul Aakre, program manager of the ASM program at UMC, “We are very thankful to Bob Stanislowski, owner Larry Altringer, and everyone at Crookston Welding and Machine. The ASM students learn a great deal about the need for various types of industrial and automotive rebuilding, and it’s important for them to see a facility with a strong industrial focus. We’d have to travel a long way to find another facility that could match Crookston Welding and Machine or an expert machinist like Bob.” For more information about the Agricultural Systems Management program, visit the website http://www.umcrookston.edu/academics/ASM/.
