Musician Todd Green to Perform at UMC October 24Musician Todd Green, described as a one-man orchestra of unique and exotic instruments, will perform at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) on Tuesday, October 24, at 7 p.m. in Bede Ballroom. The event is open to the public. Admission is $2 per person and is free for current UMC students, faculty, and staff with their U Card ID. The event is sponsored by UMC’s Concerts and Lectures Committee. Green’s performances involve over 30 different instruments including stringed instruments, flutes, and various percussion instruments that provide a musical tour of many countries and their diverse styles of music. Along the way he provides entertaining and informative explanations of the music and the instruments. His music has been described as an eclectic blend of classical, jazz, new age and world music. In addition to performing solo musical pieces in many different styles—Western, Eastern, Middle Eastern, and blends of each—he uses digital samplers to record and overdub himself live on stage. Green, who started playing guitar at age 10, has been writing and performing his own music since the age of 15. He has studied music with such notables as guitar jazz legend Mick Goodrich, Grammy Award winner Pat Metheny, and international recording star George Benson. He is also a former student of Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass. The musician spent time in Boston and New York, where he performed with the top echelon of studio musicians, and he toured with bands throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. In 1988 he moved to western Montana and began to focus on his love for acoustic music and for instruments Western audiences would call unusual. He has released one CD, “Awakening,” which features over 70 minutes of multi-instrumental music.
