Snow
Daze 2002: Snow Daze, the annual winter fun festival for students at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) will run from February 4-10. This year's theme is "Fire and Ice.” Students nominating fellow students for the Snow Daze Royal Court during the last week in January. The court will be officially introduced at Snow Daze Coronation beginning at 9 p.m., Monday, February 4, in Bede Ballroom. Snow Days Royalty will be crowned at the event. A group of over 100 students will travel to the State Capitol in St. Paul on Tuesday, February 4. The visit is an annual trip organized to show student support and to lobby the Minnesota Legislature and Governor Ventura on issues related to higher education. UMC students will join other students from each of the University of Minnesota’s four campuses. On Wednesday, February 6, UMC Campus Ministry will sponsor its own version of Mardi Gras starting at 8:00 p.m. in Bede Ballroom. The event will feature games and refreshments. Students will get a chance to play “Survival Bingo” on Thursday, February 7, starting at 8 p.m. in Bede Ballroom. Participants will vie for prizes that are meant to help them survive college life. The highlight of the week will be the Snow Daze Formal Dinner and Dance at the Northland Inn of Crookston on Friday, February 8. The UMC-only dinner will be served at 7 p.m. and cost is $8 per person. The dance, featuring music by Steve Krueger’s Club Dance, will follow at 8:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Admission is free for UMC students and $4 for others. Saturday, February 9, brings a performance by folk musicians the Granary Girls, at 8 p.m. in Bede Lounge. Sponsored by UMC Concerts and Lectures, this event is free and open to the public. This year the Crookston community will also sponsor events during the weekend in conjunction with UMC Snow Daze. On Friday, February 8, the Crookston Driftbusters Snowmobile Club will sponsor a snowmobile trail ride beginning at 6:30 p.m. from the Northland Inn. Saturday, February 9, will feature children’s snowmobile races with KC Pro West Racing. On Sunday, February 10, from 1-4 p.m. the Crookston Chamber of Commerce will sponsor activities in Central Park including a broom ball tournament, a bonfire, and free sleigh rides. UMC Snow Daze events are sponsored by UMC’s SPACE (Student Programming and Activities for Campus Entertainment) Committee.
