Early Childhood Carnival Set for April 11 at UMCMembers of the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Early Childhood Club will host their Fifth Annual Parent-Child Carnival on Thursday, April 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Bede Ballroom. The event coincides with the National Week of the Young Child, and the theme is “Children’s Opportunities, Our Responsibilities.” The carnival is open to children of UMC students, faculty, and staff and to families in the Crookston community. The event is appropriate for age levels ranging from six months to age 8. A complimentary snack will be provided. Students majoring in Early Childhood Education at UMC have planned fifteen different concurrent “activity stations” where children can take part in hands-on learning and activities. Information about each activity will be posted at each station for parents. Activities will include making windsocks, face painting, playdough sculpture, dramatic play, a taxidermy display, making soap bubbles, sand play, storytelling, woodworking, badge making, sewing, a scavenger hunt, building and construction, infant activities, and a “surprise visitor.” The event is sponsored by the UMC Early Childhood Club, the Early Childhood Development Center, the UMC Student Service Fee, and the Crookston Head Start Program. For more information, contact Connie Camrud at UMC’s Early Childhood Development Center, 218-281-8285.
