Singer-songwriter John Smith will start the evening off at 7 p.m. The group Chasing Elvis will take the stage at 8:30 p.m. The performance is open to the public. Admission is free for UMC students and $2 for others. John Smith has performed his brand of folk music at clubs and coffeehouses around the country, both as a solo performer and as half of the acclaimed folk duo Runaway. He is a winner of the prestigious Kerrville New Folk Award, has performed at the Kerrville and Napa Valley Folk Festivals, and has been a perennial finalist at Telluride's Troubadour Competition. He recently released his third CD, "Traveler," which finds him tapping into his Irish roots. While touring Ireland for the first time in 2001, the fishing villages and friendly pubs inspired three songs on the new CD. Smith performed at UMC in January of 2001.
