Magician Tim Gabrielson to Appear at UMC October 3 Magician and comedian Tim Gabrielson will perform Wednesday, October 3, at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC). The performance will begin at 8 p.m. in Bede Ballroom on the UMC Campus. Admission is free to UMC students with their U Card ID and $3 for all others. The event is open to the public. Although the pursuit, practice, and perfection of magic are his life-long passions, Gabrielson adds comedy to his sleight of hand to make the most of his performances. He says, "People are always talking about the technicality of magic. You have to be good, but the magic by itself is meaningless. Do you entertain the crowd? Can you grab an audience in the first few minutes and hold their attention? You can be a fabulous magician, but if you can't entertain the crowd, people aren't going to come back. I don't want to be just a good magician. I want to be a great entertainer." A Minnesota native, Gabrielson has been performing professionally for about eleven years and is no longer the best-kept secret in the Midwest after numerous appearances on TV including the nationally broadcast "Crook & Chase" show. He performs nearly 200 shows a year, including colleges, fairs, festivals, and corporate events. Recently Gabrielson was named one of the top 10 college comedy entertainers by Campus Activity magazine. Gabrielson performed at UMC last March, and returned to Crookston in August to perform for Ox Cart Days. For more information about Tim Gabrielson, visit his website: www.timsmagic.com. The performance is sponsored by UMC’s S.P.A.C.E (Student Programming and Activities for Campus Entertainment) Committee. Disability accommodations are available upon request and can be made by calling 218-281-8506.
