UMC Ag Activities Day Set for December 6, 2002

Over 1,200 high school students from Minnesota and North Dakota schools are expected to participate in “Ag Activities Day,” an annual event set for Friday, December 6, 2002, and hosted by the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Center for Agriculture and Natural Resources.  Over $28,000 in scholarships will be awarded to participants who place in the various competitions.

High school students and members of 4-H clubs and FFA chapters from across Minnesota and North Dakota are invited to compete in the following contests:  consumer products, crops, dairy judging, general livestock, small animals, agricultural mechanics, dairy products, farm management, wildlife, forestry, floriculture, landscaping/nursery, meats, soils, ag salesmanship, and equine.

Morning activities will include contest tours and special agriculture and science workshops.  UMC’s Collegiate FFA chapter will also sponsor a Knowledge Bowl contest.

Contest winners will be announced in Lysaker Gymnasium at 1 p.m.  UMC Ag Activity Scholarships of $750, $600 and $450 will be awarded for high individual performance, second, and third place in each contest.  The top three teams will also be recognized.  Each team score will be tabulated from the top three individuals from each participating school or chapter.
