UMC Manufacturing Degree to Be Offered at Polaris Industries

The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) and Polaris Industries of Roseau, Minn., will partner to bring the University’s Bachelor of Manufacturing Management (B.M.M.) degree to Polaris employees.  Employees can earn their degree by completing evening classes at Polaris or the Roseau high school.

The B.M.M. program is a workplace-centered degree program designed to meet the increasing demand for baccalaureate education from working adults and their employers.  The content is flexible enough to recognize the worth of prior learning, yet focused on coursework that provides tangible value both immediately and long term.  The program of study adds manufacturing and management expertise to applied technical courses.

The program is beneficial for students who require advanced management skills in their job situation, and it is specifically tailored to those individuals for whom baccalaureate level management and technology skills will pay dividends in the workplace.  The program recognizes the value of previous college coursework, specialized training and life experience, and adds a combination of technological and business skills to prepare graduates for future opportunities.

“This program is really geared toward adults who desire to continue their education with the ultimate goal of earning a bachelor degree,” says Jane Sims, who directs the program through UMC’s Center for Adult Learning.  “At the same time, these employees/students are applying concepts from the coursework to their work environment, which not only benefits Polaris, but provides individual opportunities for increased understanding and improved skills.  Polaris’ support recognizes its employees as valuable to the organization.”

The B.M.M. program at Polaris involves a four-year plan for earning the degree, with UMC and Northland Technical and Community College as educational partners.  It is modeled after UMC’s successful B.M.M. program at Marvin Windows and Doors in Warroad, MN.

Spring semester courses begin on January 9, 2003.  To register or for more information, contact Rhonda Stene at Polaris Industries (218-463-4554) or Judy Bernat at UMC (218-281-8681).  Information is also available on the Web at www.umcrookston.edu/cal/polaris.
