Big Money Assists Students in
Understanding Debt, Gives Chance to Win Cash
McGarrity and Dietrich’s Dog and Pony Show: Big Money, a fun and interactive multimedia game show designed to illustrate just how much students and their peers across the country know about their finances, will come to UMC on Thursday, September 5, at 8 p.m. in Bede Ballroom. Big Money gives students a chance to vie for cash as they learn more about their finances. In their one-hour fun and information packed multimedia presentation, hosts Patrick McGarrity and John Dietrich help students understand how they can take control of their finances in a fresh and enjoyable approach. After the show students will have the opportunity to win even more money and to be featured in future games held on college campuses across the nation. Instead of dry lectures that feature lots of charts and graphs to depict the evils of compounding interest, McGarrity and Dietrich tackle the same information with light-hearted scenarios that students can relate to. During "The Never Ending Spring Break," students are taken on a "virtual spring break," where they are shown the true costs of financing their vacation on a credit card over time. The hosts then take the students through the same trip and illustrate how they could enjoy the identical experience for far less money. The event is sponsored by UMC Concerts and Lectures.
