UMC to Host Hunt Seat Equestrian Competition March 1-2, 2003

The Golden Eagles Equestrian Team at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) will serve as the host for an Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Hunt Seat equitation competition March 1-2.  The two-day event will be held at the University Teaching and Outreach Center (UTOC) Arena, on the north end of the campus.  The competition begins at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 1, and continues at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 2.  The event is free and open to the public.  Concessions will be available.

Equestrian teams from Carleton College, Ellsworth Community College, Gustavus Adolphus College, Saint Cloud State University, South Dakota State University, University of Wisconsin—Madison, and University of Wisconsin—River Falls, will compete with UMC’s team in Hunt Seat equitation.  These teams comprise Zone 9, Region 3 of the IHSA.

UMC has been a member of the IHSA organization since 1996.  UMC’s equestrian teams have been strong competitors at the regional and zone levels, and they have sent riders on to national competition over the past seven years.

IHSA competition provides supplemental riding opportunities for students enrolled in UMC’s Equine Industries Management degree program as well as other majors on the campus.  UMC is one of the few schools in the nation to provide such a specialized equine science program.
