UMC to Host Hunt Seat Equine Competition Nov. 9-10

The Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Riding Team at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) will serve as the host for a Hunt Seat equitation competition November 9-10.  The two-day event will be held at the University Teaching and Outreach Center (UTOC) Arena, on the north end of the campus.  The competition begins at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 9, and continues at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 10.  The event is free and open to the public.  Concessions will be available.

Equestrian teams from Carleton College, Ellsworth Community College, Gustavus Adolphus College, Saint Cloud State University, South Dakota State University, University of WisconsinMadison, and University of Wisconsin—River Falls, will compete with UMC’s team in the area of Hunt Seat equitation.  These teams comprise Zone 9, Region 3 of the IHSA.

UMC has been a member of the IHSA organization since 1996.  UMC’s riding teams have been strong competitors at the zone level and have sent several members on to national competition over the past six years.

IHSA competition provides supplemental riding opportunities for students enrolled in UMC’s Equine Industries Management degree program as well as other majors on the campus.  UMC is one of the few schools in the nation to provide such a specialized equine science program.
