UMC to Host Equestrian Competition October 12-13
The Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Riding Team at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) will serve as the host for a Western riding competition October 12-13. The two-day event will be held at the University Teaching and Outreach Center (UTOC) Arena, on the north end of the campus. The competition begins at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 12, and continues at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 13. The event is free and open to the public.
Equestrian teams from Saint Cloud State University, University of Wisconsin--River Falls, University of Wisconsin--Madison, South Dakota State University, and University of Nebraska--Lincoln will compete with UMC’s team in the area of Western equitation. These teams comprise Zone 9, Region 3 of the IHSA.
UMC has been a member of the IHSA organization since 1996. UMC’s riding teams have been strong competitors at the zone level and have sent several members on to national competition over the past six years.
IHSA competition provides supplemental riding opportunities for students enrolled in UMC’s Equine Industries Management degree program as well as other majors on the campus. UMC is one of the few schools in the nation to provide such a specialized equine science program.
