Singer-Songwriter Johnsmith to Perform April 30 at UMC Singer-songwriter Johnsmith will perform at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) on Wednesday, April 30, at 8 p.m. in the student lounge in Sahlstrom Conference Center. The event is open to the public. Admission is free for UMC students and $2 for others.Johnsmith has performed at clubs and coffeehouses around the country, both as a solo performer and as half of the acclaimed folk duo Runaway. He is a winner of the prestigious Kerrville New Folk Award, has performed at the Kerrville and Napa Valley Folk Festivals, and has been a perennial finalist at Telluride's Troubadour Competition. Smith has released three solo CDs. His most recent, “Traveler,” finds him tapping into his Irish roots. While touring Ireland for the first time in 2001, the fishing villages and friendly pubs inspired three songs on the CD. Through his songs he also reveals influences of great singer-songwriters such as Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, and Jackson Browne.
