Snow Daze:  A Week of “Snow Business” February 3-8 at UMC

Snow Daze, the annual winter fun festival for students at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) will run from February 3-8.  This year's theme is “There’s Snow Business Like Show Business.”

Students will get a chance to play “Survival Bingo” on Monday, February 3, starting at 8 p.m. in Bede Ballroom.  Participants will vie for movie prizes.

On Tuesday, February 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residential Life will sponsor “Pie Your RA” in Bede Lounge.  Students can pay 50 cents for an opportunity to throw a pie in the face of their resident advisor (RA) or some other special UMC guests.  Proceeds will be going to Crookston Habitat for Humanity.

The annual Student Success Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, February 5, in Bede Lounge from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The purpose of the Success Fair is to promote a variety of resources—academic, personal, social, financial—that are available to UMC students and that enhance student success.  Many campus organizations and support services will participate in the event.

That evening Student Activities will sponsor an “Open Mic” Night starting at 8:00 p.m. in Bede Ballroom.  Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to sign up at Bede Information Desk.  Prizes will be awarded to the top three performers.

The UMC student body nominated individuals for the Snow Daze Royal Court during the last week in January.  Final voting will take place on Wednesday, February 5, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in Sahlstrom Conference Center.   The court will be officially introduced at Snow Daze Coronation beginning at 8 p.m., Thursday, February 6, in Kiehle Auditorium.  Snow Days Royalty will be crowned at the event.   Royalty candidates include Baizhou Chen, Mike Hendrickx, Dallas Koplin, Justin Schreiber, and John Thompson for King; Susan Boeddeker, MaryAnn Hermanson, Cheryl Isder, Katherine Johnson, and Jean Korkowski for Queen; Nate Emery, Nick Pankow, Kyle Rollness, Travis Scheving, and Luke Wittkop for Prince; and Anna Anderson, Amber Curry, DeAnn Ebert, Amy Foster, and DeAnn Roers for princess.

The week will culminate with the annual Snow Daze Dinner and Dance on Saturday, February 8.  The Snow Daze Dinner will take place in Brown Dining Room at 7:30 pm. Cost is $6 per student. Students must sign up in advance at the Bede Information Desk. The dance, featuring music by Club Dance Entertainment, will take place in Bede Ballroom from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.  Admission is free to UMC students and $4 for others.

UMC Snow Daze events are sponsored by UMC’s SPACE (Student Programming and Activities for Campus Entertainment) Committee.  Disability accommodations can be made for any of the events by calling 218-281-8506.
