Guitarist and songwriter Terry Shropshire will perform at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Wednesday, January 22, at 8 p.m. in Bede Ballroom (note change in location) on the UMC campus. The event is open to the public, free for UMC students and $2 for all others. Shropshire will also present a special guitar workshop at 3:30 p.m. that afternoon in Bede Ballroom for anyone interested in attending. The workshop is free of charge. Shropshire is a self-taught guitarist who has earned rave reviews for his special treatment of regional blues guitar styles from the 1920s and 1930s. Traveling with acoustic guitar, metal body resonator guitar, and a collection of harmonicas, Shropshire entertains and educates his audience. Stage presentations include East Coast Piedmont, Mississippi Delta, and South Texas blues including bottleneck slide guitar, blues harmonica and distinctive vocals. Shropshire’s long friendship with Jimmy Lovejoy, a seventy year old guitarist from the Mississippi Delta region has provided him a first hand look at authentic blues music. Blues influenced originals, country and western, jazz, and pop tunes round out the repertoire of this accomplished performer. Shropshire has immersed himself into the study and preservation of blues and roots music. His commitment has earned him a main stage slot at Kalamazoo Blues Festival 2003 where he will also present his blues guitar workshop. The performance is sponsored by UMC's Concerts and Lectures Committee. For more information, visit Shropshire’s website: webpages.charter.net/shrop/. Disability accommodations are available upon request. Contact 218-281-8506.
