UMC Teambackers Golf Classic Slated for July 19

The thirteenth annual University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Teambackers Golf Classic will be held Saturday, July 19, at Minakwa Golf Club in Crookston.  Registration will begin at 10:00 a.m., and tournament orientation will start at 10:45 a.m.  The actual tournament will begin at 11:00 a.m. with a shotgun start.  Proceeds from the event help support the UMC Athletics Scholarship Fund.

The UMC Teambackers Golf Classic is open to the public, but is limited to the first 90 registered golfers.  The registration fee is $75 per golfer.  Participants must be at least 18 years of age or high school graduates.  Included in the fee are green fees, commemorative gift, all games, prizes, old-fashioned picnic, and contribution to the UMC Scholarship Fund.  Golf cart fees are not included.

The tournament will utilize a “Texas Scramble” format with five golfers on each team.  Both men and women are invited to participate.  Golfers may set up their own teams, but they must use the following criteria:

  1. The five-member team handicap must equal 70 or more for 18 holes.

  2. Not more than two members of the team can have 18-hole handicaps of 10 or less.

Individuals who are not part of a pre-established team but wish to play in the tournament will be assigned to teams made up by the Golf Classic Committee.  If entrants do not have a handicap, one will be established for them.

A social and picnic will follow the tournament, and awards will be presented to the winning team, longest drive, closest to the pin, and longest putt.

To register or for more information contact Jason Tangquist at 218-281-8553 or Stephanie Helgeson, UMC Interim Director of Athletics, at 218-281-8422.

Golf Classic Committee members include:  Marv Bachmeier, Ray Dusek, Jerry Hasbrouck, Stephanie Helgeson, Tom Helgeson, Brad Heppner, Chuck Hiller, Nancie Hoerner, Mike Meyer, Ed Odland, Scott Oliver, Jason Tangquist, and Rose Ulseth.
