UMC to Host Regional Health Sciences Briefing November 22

On Friday, November 22, the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) will host a special briefing for regional professionals and business and civic leaders to assess regional health care workforce issues and needs.  The event is scheduled for 1 to 5 p.m. in Youngquist Auditorium of the Agricultural Research Center on campus.

The purpose of this briefing, in concert with a University of Minnesota feasibility study, is to develop a comprehensive plan for meeting the health care education needs within the region.   Questions to be addressed include:  What is the nature of the problem?   What are the resources available to address the problem?  What is the design to meet those needs?  What roles do area higher education institutions play?

Three major goals of the briefing are:

  1. To explore the extent to which the shortage in health care workers that is occurring nation-wide affects rural Northwest Minnesota.
  2. To provide an opportunity for local and regional health care employers, workers and residents to share their perceptions regarding the nature of the problem and possible means to address it.
  3. To identify creative solutions to meeting the shortages in health care workers.

For more information or to take part in the event, contact Jennifer Wilson, Director of Health Sciences, via phone at 218-281-8365 or via e-mail at wilso260@umn.edu.
