Chuck Derry to Discuss Building Positive Relationships September 8 Chuck Derry, co-founder of the Gender Violence Institute in Clearwater, MN, will present “Building Positive Relationships” Monday, September 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Kiehle Auditorium of the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC). The presentation is free and open to the public. Disability accommodations are available upon request. For information, call 218-281-8505. Earlier in the day, Derry will lead related discussions with groups of UMC students, faculty, and staff. The schedule is as follows: Noon – Brown Dining Room, open to interested students, faculty, and staff; 3 p.m. – Brown Dining Room, for UMC Student Affairs staff members. Derry’s appearance is cosponsored by the Office for Students with Disabilities, Concerts and Lectures, Student Affairs, Student Support Services, Student Health, Residence Life, and the Student Center. For fourteen years Derry has worked with the Gender Violence institute to provide services to battered women and their children, to coordinate and deliver programming for men who batter, to organize criminal and civil justice system responses to domestic assault, and to provide training on the issue of domestic violence. Derry has worked to end violence against women since 1983. For 10 years he worked directly with male offenders at the St. Cloud Intervention Project, a battered woman’s program. In 1994, he co-founded the Gender Violence Institute in Clearwater Minnesota and through the work of that organization does training, assessment, consultation, and organizational development focused on the issues of domestic violence. He also lectures and provides seminars throughout the United States on male socialization and violence against women. He has also provided law enforcement training on domestic violence investigations for the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and has participated in the development of training films for use with the Marine Corps and Law Enforcement Officer training.
