Early Childhood Carnival Set for Tuesday, April 20Members of the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Early Childhood Club will take part in the Seventh Annual Parent-Child Carnival on Tuesday, April 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lincoln Elementary School in Crookston. The event coincides with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Week of the Young Child. The carnival is free and open to families in the Crookston community and to all children of UMC students, faculty, and staff. The theme of the carnival will be “Lost in Storybook Land” and will focus on early childhood literacy. Along with other local groups, students majoring in Early Childhood Education at UMC have planned different concurrent activities based on the theme so children can take part in hands-on learning activities. These activities are appropriate for children ages six months to 8 years of age. Information about each activity will be posted at each station for parents. This year’s expanded event is cosponsored by the UMC Early Childhood Club, Cathedral School, Crookston Childcare Association, Crookston Park and Recreation, Crookston Public Library, Early Childhood Family Education, Crookston Head Start, Parents Helping Parents, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Sunrise Center, and UMC VolunTEAM. For more information, contact Connie Camrud at UMC’s Early Childhood Development Center, 218-281-8285.
