Marvin Windows and Doors, NTC, UMC Collaborative Degree Program to Hold Commencement May 11

Marvin Windows and Doors, the Warroad, Minnesota-based manufacturer of premier quality wood and clad wood windows and doors, announces the commencement exercises for its on-site college degree program on Tuesday, May 11, at 7 p.m. at the Warroad High School Auditorium.    Marvin’s unique education partnership with Northwest Technical College (NTC) and the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) - the first of its kind in the state of Minnesota - enables its employees to pursue associates and bachelors degrees on site at Marvin’s corporate headquarters in Warroad.   Faculty members from NTC and UMC travel to Warroad two days a week to teach three- and four-credit courses in a variety of subjects.

This spring, 19 employees will receive their associate’s degrees in supervisory leadership and manufacturing engineering technology from NTC and four will earn a Bachelor’s of Manufacturing Management (BMM) Degree from UMC.  The four UMC graduates of the BMM program include Tyler Baker, Roxann Crawford, Patrick Rourk, and Brad Woodward.

The ceremony will bring together officials from the University of Minnesota and Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU), including MnSCU Chancellor James McCormick, President Jon Quistgaard from Bemidji State University, University of Minnesota Regent Clyde Allen, Jr., and UMC Chancellor Velmer S. Burton, Jr.   Susan Marvin, president of Marvin Windows and Doors, will also speak.

To date, 27 employees have graduated from Marvin’s program, 57 are currently enrolled, and many others take advantage of the course offerings for professional development purposes.

The partnership between Marvin Windows and Doors, NTC, and UMC is being recognized nationally as a 2004 ASTD Excellence in Practice Citation winner in the workplace development category.  The American Society of Training and Development is the world’s largest professional training organization.  The award will be presented at its international conference and exposition in Washington DC on May 23.
