Annual UMC International Dinner Series Begins March 1 with Focus on Ghana

John Oketch“Ghana: The Land of Gold” will launch the 2004 University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) International Seminar Series on the evening of Monday, March 1.  This first in a series of three seminars will be presented by UMC student John K. Oketch (pictured at right), who completed a study abroad experience in Ghana in 2003.  Oketch, a native of Uganda, is a junior majoring in business management at UMC.

Each evening in the series will begin at 6 p.m. with an ethnic dinner, followed at 7 p.m. by a program focusing on the culture and traditions of the respective country.  The dinner will be served in Brown Dining Room of UMC’s Sahlstrom Conference Center and is by reservation only.  Cost is $8.50 per person.  Please make reservations for the seminar series by calling Angelika Huglen at 218-281-8540 or Brent Melsa 218-281-8538.

Nikola Zecevic (photo at right), a native of Serbia and Montenegro, is a freshman majoring in business management at UMC.

Monday, March 22
“Viet Nam:  My Native Country”

Hung Tien Vo, a native of Viet Nam, moved to the U.S. with his family in July 2001. He is currently a freshman studying information technology management at UMC.

Nguyet Chu, also a native of Viet Nam, is a junior majoring in business management.

The series will culminate with the annual International Dinner, set for Saturday, April 3, at 6 p.m. in Brown Dining Room.  UMC’s international students participate in this dinner, providing menu items from their respective home countries as well as entertainment for the program that follows.  Tickets for this dinner are $10 per person and will be available through advance sales only.  Tickets may be purchased at the UMC Business Office in Selvig Hall, or contact Brent Melsa at 218-281-8540 or 218-281-8538.
