McGrenahan Brings Comedy with Message to UMC October 8

Bernie McGrenahan will bring his “Happy Hour, Comedy with a Twist” to the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Wednesday, October 8, at 8 p.m. in Kiehle Auditorium.  The performance is open to the public.  Admission is free to UMC students and only $2 per person for others.

McGrenahan’s “Happy Hour, Comedy with a Twist” is thirty minutes of stand up comedy followed by thirty minutes of impact-filled message on alcohol abuse.  His stand up comedy warms the crowd. The powerful message that follows includes the story of the alcohol and drug related suicide of his nineteen-year-old brother and Bernie's six-month incarceration from three DUI convictions.

Free from alcohol for thirteen years, McGrenahan applauds the “social norm” or majority of students who do make smart choices regarding alcohol.  He advises students to beware of the binge situations they may experience in college, including drink specials, games, and the deadly “21 shots” birthday celebration.

Having lived the crisis himself, McGrenahan is well studied on the trends and facts surrounding college drinking.  "I want students to know the truth about alcohol.  It is a cunning and powerful drug.  We must respect it!"
