UMC Faculty Seminar to Discuss Site Specific Pest Management

Ian MacRaeOn Thursday, February 19, the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) will host the first in a continuing series of seminars presented by campus faculty members, researchers, extension personnel, and other visiting professionals.  The inaugural seminar will take place at 3 p.m. in Youngquist Auditorium in the Agricultural Research Center on the campus and will feature Ian MacRae (pictured above right), Ph.D., research entomologist at the Northwest Research and Outreach Center and Department of Entomology, University of Minnesota, St. Paul Campus.  The event is free and open to the public.

Dr. MacRae’s topic will be:  “Digital Mapping of Insect Pest Populations:  Site Specific Pest Management.”  Digital mapping tools, such as geographic information systems (GIS) and global positioning systems (GPS), allow pest managers to map pest populations and target pesticide application appropriately.  This is sometimes referred to as site specific pest management.  Examples of recent research and applications of these techniques in insect pest management will be presented and the application of digital mapping in other areas of animal management will also be discussed.

The series is sponsored by UMC’s Office of Academic Affairs.  Disability accommodations are available upon request.
