UMC Teambackers/NWSA/Community Golf Classic Slated for July 18
The eighth annual University of Minnesota, Crookston, UMC Teambackers/NWSA/Community Golf Classic will be held Saturday, July 18, at Minakwa Golf Club in Crookston. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Proceeds from the tournament go to UMC scholarships.
Activities will begin with a golf clinic at 10 a.m. by Jim Lawrence, assistant pro at the Grand Forks Country Club. Lawrence has participated in senior PGA events.
A tournament orientation will be held at 10:45 a.m. with tee-off time at 11:00 a.m. (shotgun start).Plans are to utilize a Texas Scramble format with five golfers on each team, according to Curt Almlie, director of institutional relations at UMC and tournament coordinator.
Golfers will be permitted to set up their own teams using the following criteria: five member team handicap must equal 80 or more for 18 holes, and not more than two members of the team can have nine hole handicaps of 10 or less. The Golf Committee will establish a handicap for anyone without an established one.
Individuals who wish to play in the tournament, but are not included in one of the pre-established teams, will be assigned to teams made up by the golf committee. Both men and women are invited to participate.
Registration costs for the tournament will be $60 per golfer. These fees will cover green fees, a golf towel, prizes, dinner and a contribution to the UMC Scholarship Fund. Golf cart fees are not included
Participation will be limited to the first 90 golfers who pay their registration fees. Fees must be paid by July 10.
The golf social and dinner are scheduled at Minakwa Golf Club after the tournament and will be followed by the award presentations. Golf spouses are also invited to the social and dinner, but they need to RSVP to the White House Alumni Center by July 16.
Golf Committee members include, in addition to Almlie: Marv Bachmeier, Kent Bruun, Kent Freberg, Jerry Hasbrouck, Tom Helgeson, Chuck Hiller, Nancie Hoerner, Richy Johnson, Ed Odland, Kyle Pearson and Stephanie Reck.
