University of Minnesota, Crookston WordmarkUMC'S 1998 Monday Evening International Series Announced

Ecuador, France, The Philippines & Taiwan, and The Holy Land highlight the University of Minnesota, Crookston's popular UMC 1998 Monday Evening International Series. All programs are held on Monday evenings in March, beginning March 9. Each evening begins at 6 p.m. with an ethnic dinner for $8, followed by a 7 p.m. program in Brown Dining Room of the Sahlstrom Conference Center. The dinners are by reservation only.

To kick off the series, on Monday, March 9, the topic is "Ecuador: The Land of the Incas" presented by Marcelo Campoverde. A native of Ecuador, Campoverde is UMC’s head soccer coach.

On March 16, William LaPorte-Lewis, will present a program on "France: A Country of Beauty, History and Progress." LaPorte-Lewis is the French teacher at Crookston High School and has spent several years in France.

"The Philippines & Taiwan: A Tale of Two Countries in the Pacific" will be presented on March 23 by Dr. Benjamin Chan and Shunchun Hsu. Chan is from the Philippines and Hsu if from Taiwan.

The final program in the International Series will be March 30 with Dale Knotek presenting a program on "The Holy Land: A Hope for Lasting Peace." Knotek recently toured the Holy Land.

Each dinner includes special ethnic recipes from the featured country, according to Mario Prada, director of international and multicultural programs at UMC and coordinator of the International Series.
