Crookston Day of Service Set for Saturday, May 1

Crookston’s annual Day of Service will be Saturday, May 1, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.  The annual event was created to help build and beautify the community of Crookston.  Volunteers have come from across the city, and the services they provide help build connections among the various groups they represent.

Anyone wanting to help with the Day of Service is asked to meet at the Crookston Civic Arena for food and work assignments at 1:00 p.m.

Some of the community service projects volunteers will be completing include:

  • installing trash can holders in Central Park
  • digging and replanting shrubs, trees and perennials from the homes that will be demolished for the new dike system in order to allow these plants to continue to live
  • landscaping in front of the Crookston Central Park entrance sign
  • creating flower beds by the Cellular One building and also by the Old Opera Block across from Noah Insurance
  • painting at the Civic Arena
  • picking up trash all over the entire city
  • re-planting various trees and shrubs into parks across town

Anyone in the community who has projects they would like help with should call Pam Holsinger-Fuchs at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) at 218-281-8505.

The Day of Service is sponsored by UMC Service Learning, Noonday Lions, RSVP, Cultures United, Shining Stars 4-H, America’s Promise, City Beautification and AmeriCorp.

Disability accommodations available upon request. For more information contact 218-281-8505
