UMC Students Attend Society for Technical Communicators

Three University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) students recently attended the banquet celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Manitoba chapter for the Society for Technical Communicators. The banquet was held at the Ft. Garry Hotel in downtown Winnipeg.

Attending from UMC were Kelli Rusch of Hutchinson, Sara Brorson of Crookston, Tom Nordlum of Crookston, and Traci Kelli, assistant professor and program director for UMC Technical and Scientific Communication program.

The keynote speaker was Saul Carliner, a nationally known technical communicator and UMTC/UMC faculty in the Scientific and Technical Communication programs. Carliner's presentation was entitled "Lessons from the Idiot Box," which featured some lessons and insights into technical communication strategies.

The group also went with Carliner to the Museum of Man and Nature, where he discussed some basic strategies for designing and delivering information in a 3D/interactive atmosphere.

Scientific and technical communication involves the gathering, analyzing, organizing, and distributing of scientific and technical information efficiently and accurately for specific audiences.
