| Take Back the Night Activities
Set for April 29, 1999 The second Crookston "Take Back the Night" Walk will be held Thursday, April 29, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Crookston High School Commons. Sponsored by the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) and the Violence Intervention Project, the walk is open to all members of the community. "Take Back the Night" events have long symbolized the need for all members of a community to join together to stop sexual violence, domestic abuse and child abuse in our communities. The group will gather to share a brief program featuring survivor stories, speakers and musical numbers. The evening will include: a welcome by Pam Holsinger-Fuchs, director of UMC Student Activities and Service Learning; A Survivors Story, and music at Crookston High School. Following the program, the group will walk together to the downtown park, across from Montagues Flower Shop at the corner of Robert and Main. The walk will be escorted by Crookston City Police. To insure the safety of all participants, everyone must stay behind the lead banner. Children must be under the supervision of the adults who brought them. At the park Denise Sevigny, director of violence Intervention Project, and Leticia Sanchez of Migrant Health/Battered Womans Program, will give Reflections on the Work of Ending violence. There will also be music, mediation, candle-lighting and a closing Prayer for Peace. At the conclusion of the program, a bus will be available to transport participants back to the Crookston High School parking lot and the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC). Disability accommodations available upon request. For more information contact 218-281-8505.
