The Black Woman’s Experience in America Next UMC International Series March 15

The Black Woman’s Experience in America: An Evening of Song, Poetry, and Narrative with Denise Myers, Soprano, will be presented on March 15, at the next UMC International Seminar Series.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. with an ethnic dinner for $8, followed by a 7 p.m. program in Sahlstrom Conference Center. The dinner is by reservation only.

A native of Richmond VA, lyric soprano Denise Myers currently is completing the doctor of musical arts degree in voice at the University of Minnesota. She has performed with the Richmond Civic Opera and with the Indiana University Opera Theatre. She toured Indiana and Illinois singing the role of Bess in several concert performances of Porgy and Bess. She has also performed with the Hutchinson Symphony and the Lawrence Chamber Players in Kansas and as a guest recitalist in Virginia, Washington DC, Indiana, Kansas and the Twin Cities.

Myers has taught voice in several Twin Cities area high schools, at Concordia College in St. Paul, and currently maintains a small private studio.

Each dinner in the International Seminar includes special ethnic recipes from the featured country, according to Mario Prada, director of International and Multicultural Programs at UMC and coordinator of the International Series.
