Carolyn Weber to Head Rural-Urban Project at UMC

Carolyn Weber of Crookston has been appointed coordinator of the Connecting Communities project at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC). She will begin her duties on June 1. Weber is a May 1999 graduate of UMC and is accepted into a graduate program at the University of North Dakota starting this fall.

The Connecting Communities project will explore ways to continue the urban-rural conversation between citizens in Crookston and North Minneapolis that began as part of the Minnesota Citizens Forum. More than 50 people from the Crookston community participated in these radio conversations between June 1998 and April 1999.

Citizens gathered at UMC and Lucille’s Kitchen in North Minneapolis. The conversations were carried live on KMOJ and Minnesota Public Radio statewide. The adults and youth who participated discovered things they had in common, but they also discovered differences. It is those discoveries that Weber will explore.

Anyone wishing to be involved in follow-up activities including meetings with neighbors in North Minneapolis are asked to call Carolyn Weber at 218-281-8676.
