UMC's
Applied Health Program Featured at Penn State Conference The University of
Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Bachelor
of Applied Health degree program was the focus of a workshop presented
at The Pennsylvania State University October 12. Dr.
Arlyss Grosz, director of UMC’s
Health Management Programs and Barbara
J Muesing, director of UMC Outreach Programs, were invited to make the
presentation in recognition of their effort to deliver the Applied Health
Degree to students across Minnesota. Joining
them in making the presentation were Jody Horntvedt, Extension Educator in
Baudette and Lori Anderson, Extension Educator in Alexandria. The workshop provided
information about the importance of the Bachelor of Applied Health degree
to the future of health care delivery in rural Minnesota. Delivering
the courses on the internet provides opportunity for students to earn
their college degree on a part-time basis
without travelling to the Crookston Campus. Extension
Educators help publicize the program and connect the learning to the
communities in which they live and work. The Penn State
Conference theme was outreach and public service. Three hundred
people attended from across the country to learn how universities can
better solve problems of society. Keeping
up with change was the challenge put forward if universities are to remain
centers of learning for the future. Graham Spanier,
President of Penn State, addressed the conference audience and encouraged
universities to expand learning to new
audiences through technology. The
presentation by Grosz provided a specific example of a college degree
program that uses technology to reach students at a distance. |
