UMC to Host Regional Equestrian Competition March 25The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) will serve as host for the regional riding competition of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA). The event will be held Saturday, March 25, at the University Teaching and Outreach Center (UTOC) Arena, on the north end of the campus. Riding begins at 9:00 a.m. Saturday with the Western riding competition and continues at 1:00 p.m. with the hunt seat riding competition. The event is free and open to the public. The high point teams from Saturday’s competition will move on to the zone level competition, held Friday, April 21, at the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio. High point teams at that level will continue on to the national IHSA competition, held May 11-14 at Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, Georgia. Equestrian teams from Iowa State University, Saint Cloud State University, University of Wisconsin-River Falls, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and South Dakota State University will compete with UMC’s team. These teams comprise Zone 6, Region 4 of the IHSA. UMC has been a member of the IHSA Zone 6, Region 4, since 1996 and is known as the “President College” or hub of that region. IHSA competition provides supplemental riding opportunities for students enrolled in UMC’s Equine Industries Management degree program. UMC is one of the few schools in the nation to provide such a specialized equine science program.
