Ag Activities Day Set for December 3, 1999 Ag Activities Day, sponsored by the Center for Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC), is scheduled for Friday, December 3. High-school
students and members of 4-H clubs and FFA chapters from Minnesota and
North Dakota are invited to compete in the following contests:
consumer products, crops, dairy judging, general livestock, horses,
agricultural mechanics, dairy products, farm management, wildlife,
forestry, floriculture, landscaping/nursery, meats, soils, and ag
salesmanship. Morning activities will include contest tours and special
workshops on Small Animals, A.I. Reproductive Techniques, Diversity of
Insects, and Audubon in Your Backyard. UMC’s Collegiate FFA
chapter will also sponsor a Knowledge Bowl contest before the awards
recognition ceremony. Contest
winners will be announced in Lysaker Gymnasium at 1:00 p.m. UMC Ag
Activity Day Scholarships of $750 will be awarded for high individual
performance, $600 for second high individual, and $450 for third high
individual in each contest. The top three teams will also be
recognized. Each team score will be tabulated from the top three
individuals from each participating school or chapter. Last
year nearly 1,000 students from Minnesota and North Dakota schools
participated in the annual event, according to Jane Sims, assistant to the
director, Center for Agriculture and Natural Resources, and coordinator of
Ag Activities Day. In addition to area schools, registrations for
this year's Ag Activities Day have already been received from as far away
as the Twin Cities. |
