UMC Commencement Set for May 6

Commencement exercises for the class of 2000 at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) will be held Saturday, May 6.  Ceremonies begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Lysaker Gymnasium on the campus.  The public is welcome to attend the ceremony and the reception to follow in Brown Dining Room.

Bachelor of science, associate in applied science, and associate in science degrees will be conferred upon graduates, subject to completion of all curriculum requirements.  One-hundred fifteen students are expected to participate in the commencement ceremonies.  

At 2:00 p.m. the processional will begin, led by the Mace-Bearer Robert Smith, Associate Professor of Business and Director of UMC’s Center for Business and Technology.  The procession will include Faculty Marshal David Hoff, Assistant Professor of Agricultural Economics, followed by the UMC faculty, degree candidates, and platform guests.

UMC Chancellor Donald Sargeant and U of M Regent Jessica Phillips will confer the degrees, while UMC Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Douglas Knowlton presents the candidates.  The Honorable Phillips will also bring greetings from the Board of Regents.

Special guest M. James Bensen, President of Bemidji State University, will address the graduating class. 

UMC Student Association President Kelli Rusch, scientific and technical communication major from Hutchinson, will speak for the class and will pass the academic torch to President-elect Shane Roers, business management major from Fargo, North Dakota.

President of the UMC Alumni Association, Jennifer Tate, Class of 1998, will offer congratulations to the class of 2000.  The presentation of colors will be by Air Force ROTC Detachment 610 with students from UMC and the University of North Dakota.  Special music will be presented by the UMC Choir under the direction of George French, assistant professor of music and theater.
